Two years on
A quick follow-up to the "2007" album releases since it has been about two years since I posted about it: Nine Inch Nails and Tori Amos--successfully released new material in 2007. Cibo Matto also came out with their greatest hits (with a few rare tracks) in 2007. Portishead's third studio release, OK, that was 2008, but at least they came out with the album eventually. (And it was great.) Massive Attack, where's your Weather Underground album? And Deltron, how about that new album, Deltron: Event II? It has been two years, folks. And, yes, talking about what should have been released in 2007 is more interesting than what's supposed to be released in 2009. (What's supposed to come out this year, anyway?) |

Trailer for the new K9 series K9 TrailerA few thoughts:
- Um, didn't they already try a K9 spin-off series that didn't work?
- K9 has legs...and he can fly?!
- Didn't they already cover the younger end of the Doctor Who fan base with the Sarah Jane Smith show?
- Not to complain, but can the market really sustain four simultaneous Doctor Who-related TV series? What's next, CSI: Gallifrey and Law and Order: Doctor Who? (I am almost expecting the day when PBS runs out of BBC material to show on Masterpiece Theatre, so they have to start showing Doctor Who.)
- And aren't we talking about a TV series that they cancelled after running it into the ground in the late 1980s? Not only is it back, but there's more going on now than ever.
- Am I the only one who thinks that they should consider making a UNIT series if they are going to make all of these spin-off series?

Doctor Who anime
OK, so some guy made this in his basement, or whatever, but some of it is pretty cool: Doctor Who animeI like most of the content involving Daleks and Cybermen, and The Master is done quite well. The scantily-clad cat girl companion is a bit silly, but I think the artist was trying to "anime-ify" his work. |

More WTF Doctor Who videos
Remember in the 1980s how there were celebrity group songs to help starving people in Africa and bankrupt American farmers? Well, how about this celebrity group song to save the almost-cancelled (in 1985) series Doctor Who: Doctor in DistressIt's cringe-inducing, but if you are a fan of the series, it worth watch all of the way through to see the surprise cameos and so forth. Then there is this next video. It's a recreation of a missing trailer for a most-missing serial: Web of Fear trailerIt's worth watching for the rare audio, and for an amateur animation effort, it's not bad. But it's kind of creepy because the motion isn't quite right... |

Molotov's Amateur music video for Molotov's song AmateurThis is a rather entertaining music video. It's by the Mexican rock-rap group Molotov, is a spoof of sports films and Japanese eating contests, and features samples from Rock Me Amadeus and a Beastie Boys song. Plus, if one were looking for an example of how truly global culture has become, a Mexican band with a Russian name sampling Austrian and American music to spoof a Japanese phenomenon would be a pretty good example. |
